[edit]

there are a zillion recipes!

this one?

A classic New York martini.

2 parts Canadian whisky
1 part sweet vermouth (Martini Rosso)
a few drops of Angostura Bitter

Stir with ice and strain into a cocktail glass

The Angostura Bitter is the most essential ingredient in this drink. You can not make do without it!

Even if the 20ies where the golden age of the cocktail, it wasn't until the following decade that the recipes reached something close to perfection. The prohobition was thrown, and the Manhattan, the king of cocktails was invented.

Why Canadian whiskey?
The reason why the original recipe calls for Canadian whiskey, is of course that during the prohibition days the American whiskey distilleries where all closed down. In these days, the only good whiskey avaiable to the American public, came from Canada.
