First, thanks for the recent field research on Pac Bell installation
costs and plans.

<<Does anyone know if USRX has any plans to try to get telco business
like Alcatel, WSTL, and Amati are doing? Or, are they going to be happy
enough taking on PC OEMs?>>

Although it is directed towards USRX remote access concentrator sales
that incorporate X2 56 Kbps technology rather than ADSL, you may want
to review some background info Bob Smith located and was kind enough
to post at:

techstocks.com

If USRX is now pushing to sell remote access concentrators to ISPs that
incorporate X2 technology, it seems reasonable to expect that they will
*try* to eventually market ADSL equipment to the same customers. There
has been prior discussion on this thread about the *possibility* that a
USRX X2 modem in a remote access concentrator owned by an ISP *might* be
software upgradeable to ADSL *IF* the existing X2 modem incorporates the
newest TI DSP with flash ROM (the same one AMTX has/had been waiting for).

The installed base of USRX X2 remote access concentrators, containing the
older TI DSPs (even if they had flash ROM that allowed them to be upgraded
to X2 from V.34 by software download), apparently need to have the older TI
DSP replaced before they can possibly be made ADSL capable. The older TI
DSPs, even if they contain the flash ROM upgrade capability, don't have
enough processing power to handle the more complicated ADSL algorithms.
This DSP "replacement" apparently could potentially be accomplished by
some sort of modular "line card" replacement, if I understand it right.

Also, the recent USRX merger with 3COM was arguably intended, at least in part,
to give USRX access to 3COM's customer base. I don't know how much
equipment 3COM sells to telcos/ISPs (Mike Angelo?), but the merger certainly
didn't decrease the reach of USRX equipment distribution channels to
corporate accounts.

I don't recall if Bob posted anything additional on the remote access
concentrator upgrade path topic as a result of his superlative trade show
research in New Orleans. Anything new to report on this topic, Bob?

Best regards and good luck to us all,

Bozo T. Clown

P.S. #1 As one of the resident song lyric experts, was Disney justified
in yanking the latest Insane Clown Posse album off store shelves? Or
are people just making further irrational attempts to censor clowns?

P.S. #2 Regardless of what anybody here thinks of me, ya gotta love
the visual imagery inherent in the name "Insane Clown Posse." I wonder
if they ride Shetlands? Can't tell from:

insaneclownposse.com

P.S. #3 Wait! Do we know if any members of Insane Clown Posse have
electrical engineering degrees? Rick Ocasek of the Cars actually did,
if I remember right. Maybe Bob Smith should attend a Posse
concert while I post something? Even that won't work, 'cause what if
they're lip syncing like Milli Vanilli did, and slip in a fake clown
on stage behind the face paint and rubber nose (they are insane, after
all)?

P.S. #4 Maybe all the other clowns on this thread are Southern Baptists,
and that's why they got so offended by my Father Guido Sarducci/pope
story?

Disclaimer: Since I spent many hours in my formative years attending the
Mortons Corners Baptist Church (I kid you not!), I am entitled to poke
mild fun at Baptists. I don't plan to make it a habit.
