[Beating a dead horse]

Pat--

I should not keep bringing up this article but I couldn't resist as the comments came from Tac:

<<< Even committed optimists like Amati Communications' vice president
of marketing Benjamin Berry said that DSL services are unlikely this year. "ADSL rollouts clearly will be coming next year at the earliest," Berry said.>>>

>Tac is not a committed optimist. He's Amati's voice of reason. Their devil's advocate. Their Eyore, who, as I'm sure you remember, said on his special day, "Birthdays. . . here today, gone tomorrow. . .
"I would question his use of "at the earliest." I suspect he meant
"the earliest we'll see rollouts is next year."<

This is where I have to take exception. Berry is a Veep of Marketing. Marketings' job is to remain absolutely positive and create market demand. I've rarely seen voices of reason in marketing who will state what they really believe to the public. If a VP of Marketing is not a committed optimist, I'd hate to see the pessimists at Amati. Also, concerning his use of the phrase "at the earliest" and your interpretation :

>I suspect he meant "the earliest we'll see rollouts is next year."<
isn't that one and the same. It all comes down to rollouts starting in '98, not '97.

If I seem a bit jaded, my wonderful investments in ANCR,NUKO, and other dream machines have contributed to my current investment psychology regarding high tech companies without revenues.

Anyhow, I won't beat this deployment thing into the ground anymore. Suffice to say we both have differing opinions. I'd much rather you be right than me. My portfolio is counting on it.

Mike
