David: Re: Wednesday column. Wow, I'm impressed. I now "know" a columnist. I hope you get compensated by the number of "clicks" on that page. That was a cute story. I also got burned by an assumed never-negative-number once. The good news is that once it happens, you'll never let it happen again. My situation occurred with some SMF data (for you non-MVS'rs, that is data that is collected by the operating system as jobs run). I then spent many hours writing data validation routines for the hundreds of fields present in SMF records. Not my idea of a pleasure time activity. Anyway, congrats on the new column. TED
