PSINet Names New Vice-Presidents
HERNDON, Va. -- PSINet Inc. (Nasdaq: PSIX), the first commercial Internet Service Provider (ISP), today announced the appointment of four new vice presidents, building on a successful program of aggressive management growth particularly over the past 12 months. In this period, PSINet announced a number of initiatives (see chronology at www.psi.net) that strategically position the company to focus on its core markets.
"We continue to strengthen the PSINet executive core," said William L. Schrader, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of PSINet. "In the past 12 months, we have hired or promoted 12 new officers, providing focused management for new strategic business units."
John Muleta joins PSINet as vice president in the newly formed PSINet Telecom Ltd. subsidiary, announced February 11, 1998. Muleta comes to PSINet after a distinguished tenure with the Federal Communications Commission where he most recently served as deputy chief of the Common Carrier Bureau. Muleta's major responsibilities at PSINet will include managing the planning, operational, and legal issues associated with establishment of PSINet Telecom Ltd.
Prior to joining the FCC, Muleta worked at Coopers & Lybrand as a member of its Telecommunications & Media Practice Group and at the GTE Corporation where he was a manager at several Florida-based units. Muleta received his MBA/JD and his B.S. in Systems Engineering from the University of Virginia.
Kathleen Horne has been appointed vice president and assistant general counsel. Horne shares general supervision of legal affairs with David Kunkel, senior vice president and general counsel. These responsibilities include transactional, securities, and general corporate work.
Horne has been assistant general counsel at PSINet since March 1996. Prior to that, she worked on the PSINet account as a partner at Nixon, Hargrave, Devans, and Doyle, the law firm that serves as PSINet's outside general counsel. She was with the firm for 10 years. Horne attended Albany Law School and graduated cum laude from St. Lawrence University with a B.S. in Psychology.
At a reception on February 23, Horne will be recognized by the Fairfax County Commission for Women for her contributions to Fairfax County's technology industry. The Board of Supervisors, the Commission For Women, the Office For Women and the Office of Equity Programs will acknowledge women executives, women technology business owners, and female students in the county with outstanding achievements in math, science, and related technical subjects.
PSINet named William Cripe vice president of human resources. Cripe joined PSINet in October as interim human resources executive and since then has lead the human resources function with full responsibility for developing and implementing programs and services. He reports to Ed Postal, senior vice president and chief financial officer.
Cripe has 25 years of human resources experience, most recently serving as vice president, human resources for Software AG Americas. In his six-year tenure there, Cripe successfully transformed the human resources department from modest beginnings into a highly effective operation. He holds a B.S. in Social Psychology from the University of Toledo and is currently pursuing a M.S. in Organizational Effectiveness from Marymount University. Cripe has also been certified by the Society for Human Resource Management as a Senior Professional in Human Resource (SPHR).
