TECH INVESTORS, Take a look at the Oil Service Sector ($OSX). DRILLING FOR OIL The Oil Service Sector ($OSX) has been grossly over sold: cbs.marketwatch.com Many of the drillers and fabricators are selling at P/Es significantly below projected (+20%/3-5 year) growth rates. At 12 1/2 GLM has a P/E of 7.58/FY98 and 6.28/FY99. Another, FGII @ 14 « has a P/E of 9.9/FY98 and 6.47/FY99. With crude selling a 10 year low, companies in this sector have potential for exceeding previous 52 week highs and doubling are tripling present price levels, when, not if, crude prices return to historic median price levels (above $15 in 1996 dollars). Worldwide consumption of crude is projected by the Dept of Energy to grow @2.1% (real) per annum from now until 2020. New discoveries cannot keep up with the increased demand. Opportunities to buy great companies at distressed prices rarely occur, especially when DEMAND for the basic commodity is over the long term guaranteed to increase . Crude prices will recover -THEY ALWAYS HAVE-. When they do the OIL SERVICE SECTOR WILL EXPLODE!! I, nor; does anyone else know if the sector has bottomed. But, the fundamentals are outstanding and at this level, downside risks are far outweighed by potential rewards.
