Germany Boosts Energy Security With New LNG Terminal

The Wilhelmshaven 2 terminal, with the FSRU Excelsior, is a key part of Germany's strategy to diversify its energy supply and reduce its reliance on pipeline gas, particularly from Russia.

While the terminal is designed to receive LNG from a variety of global sources, the specific commissioning cargo for the FSRU Excelsior came from the United States. According to reports, the shipment comprised US LNG that was regasified aboard the vessel.

Since coming online, the terminal's capacity has been fully subscribed by traders, who will be responsible for sourcing the LNG. While the initial commissioning cargo came from the U.S., the source of future LNG imports will depend on these commercial arrangements.
