PartyTime: My best bet is less than 10 percent odds of succeeding.
>>>In comparison to 100% chance of failing if we do nothing, right??<<<
Your source for 100 percent please? Admit it, you're making that up.
>>>Don't tell me the odds... We changed an entire imperialist society in Japan into a democratic AND PACIFISTIC state...<<<
It's much easier to change a society when they're willing. You have no proof that Iraq, tribal lands sporting intensive ethnic strife, will be a willing society. And you conveniently leave out Iraq's neighbors. Who were Japan's neighbors? And Germany has taken its guilt to exactly where it should have gone: pacifism.
>>>If we did it then, we can do it again.. It just takes time and a bit of will-power..<<<
Well, I'm in favor of time and a bit of will-power but killing people in order to prove this, I think, is the wrong way to go. Perhaps time and a bit of will-power could be put to better use than war.
>>>Btw, don't quote battles unless you have the faintest idea of what they were, how they came about, and how they compare to today's situation. Stalingrad is a blunder I highly doubt the US is willing to replicate, even on its worst day...<<<
OK, I'll ask you then. When was the last time a city of 5.5 million people was captured and its standing government taken down?
Unless you can come up with an answer, hey, I'm using Stalingrad. And with good reason!
By the way, Stalingrad saw two million die, more deaths than the entirety of US forces who were killed in World War II.
A military man yourself, then you'll agree nothing is certain in war. Why you so certain taking Baghdad will be easy, especially if Saddam has what you claim he's got.
By the way, it's my personal opinion Saddam is holding back some chemical weapons, weapons which he'd use in defense of Baghdad against either Iranians, Kurds or, yes, Americans. But it's also my opinion I don't think he'd use this stuff unless directly attacked. Having a war to find out, especially when there is an ongoing alternative, in my view, is foolhardy.
