RESEARCH ALERT- Goldman lifts Sun (NASDAQ:SUNW) estimate

Reuters, Thursday, January 16, 1997 at 14:10

-- Goldman Sachs analyst Laura Conigliaro in a research
note Thursday raised her fiscal 1997 earnings per share
estimate for Sun Microsystems Inc by $0.10 to $1.80 following
company's stronger-than-expected second quarter results.
-- Stock remains on firm's Priority List.
-- Analyst cites Sun's rising presence in the computer
industry, saying checks with customers and its channel show
demand continues to be high for Sun products and surveys
confirm its rising market share.
-- Conigliaro estimates server growth "remains solidly
above 45 percent," offsetting drag from workstations and
becoming a larger portion of total revenues.
-- Analyst says heavy spending on efforts to create demand
and a host of new products rolling out in the current quarter
should stimulate demand in the fiscal year's second half.
-- Share up 2-3/4 at 31, the most active stock on the
Nasdaq market volume topping 16 million by midafternoon.
