Liberalism doesn't really exist anymore. Today's progressives are mainstream in every way. We use the best ideas from old-fashioned liberalism, but have many new ones which are forweard-looking and fiscally conservative. We are also tougher on defense because we are much smarter on defense and use diplomacy before military strikes, which usually erases the need for military strikes. The funny thing in Florida is watching McCain and Romney acuse each other of being "liberal". Huckabee gets that too. And the "liberal" things they've done are the only really popular and compassionate things they've ever done, like help supply more health care or treat illegal immigrants like human beings.
