My take is that the total market size for the commercial DVD decoder chip set suitable for DVD players (excluding the captive ones that some Japanese/Korean consumer giants reserved for their own chips)is dismally small, much, much less than 5 million units.

And you see so many competitors in the field, therefore the marketing cost will be very high. Many companies made a lot of press release for marketing hype purpose, and not of real business.
