Phil,
I don't think your concern about EMU becoming the de facto reserve currency of the world in the future is going to materialize any time soon. I believe it is similar to the concern expressed by some economists not too long ago about the Japanese Yen. EMU may be a good idea but any time an economic or political concept/entity is created by virtue of perceived necessity or sheer convenience supported by a multitude of diverging interests usually produce mediocrity at best or a miserable failure at worst.

I suspect as long the U.S remains the world leader politically,economically and militarily the buck will always find its way here and not elsewhere. Just an opinion with no warranty.
