At the other end of the market, the trend isn't so pronounced. Disk Trend expects the lowly 1.4MB floppy disk to fade from the scene slowly and be replaced by the two prevalent large-format removables, the Zip drive and the SuperDrive. Shipments of ordinary floppy drives are expected to drop from $1.6 billion in 1998 to $1.1 billion by 2002, while the combined sales of Zip and SuperDrive drives are expected to grow from $847 million in 1998 to $1.1 billion in 2002. In 1998, 83.6 percent of these drives shipped were Zip drives, and the rest were SuperDisk.
