At the OEM level there may be a few dollar difference in AMD's favor. Intel chipsets are expensive, although NVIDIA gets a fair price for theirs as well.

I built one (6100), with a 69 dollar Biostar Board on a 754 socket system

My primary system uses the Biostar TForce6100-939, which is probably the same motherboard you are talking about. It is an excellent value.

As for cost, the Microstar was 80 dollars at Newegg. Add a HD, Memory and a Chip, and you have an excellent system at giveaway prices. Dell can make a lot of money on these.

I do believe margins will be good for Dell, much of it due to processor pricing as the report claims.
