Government is not the problem, it is the solution. Government is not an evil entity, it is the weapon the masses have against abuse by the elite.

Go back in history to times before republics. Kings, queens, feudal lords and tribal chiefs ruled the masses, peasants and serfs with an iron hand and life was miserable for most people. The masses had nothing, neither money or power.

And money and power always tries to increase money and power, at the expense of the masses.

In the early 20th century the Robber Barrons were running the country and Teddy Roosevelt beat them back with a stick; then they rose again in the 1920's and FDR beat them back with a stick. Now they have risen again and Obama was elected to beat them back.

In a democracy the only real power the people have is their democracy i.e. government, which is the only entity powerful enough to force the rich and powerful to share some of their welath and power with the mases.

In a Republic/Democracy, government is the executive arm of the masses.
