Quagmire

By John on Odds and Ends
Common Sense and Wonder

From Steve over at Grandpa John’s:

<<< Reuters: “Many… are frustrated by the slow pace of recovery in a city where few of the badly damaged houses have been rebuilt and many remain to gutted. Trash piles still litters streets in nearly every neighborhood.”…

“…troops fanned out… on Wednesday, aiming to help stop a spasm of violence and looting…”

“…refocus on the most populated areas, where the murder rate per capita is returning…”

“Residents decried the shooting of five teens on Saturday…”

Even after an extended presence, it is apparent that we are losing. Yes, there have been elections, but our feeble attempt to restore peace, to rebuild, and to introduce democracy has failed. There is civil war erupting with our brave young soldiers in the middle of harm’s way. We are presently stuck in a quagmire.

It is time to bring the troops home… or at least redeploy them in an area where they could be called to action quickly if needed. They could be withdrawn to Biloxi, Baton Rouge, or Okinawa. It is beyond time for the officials in New Orleans to take responsibility for their own situation. >>>
