Close analysis is crucial. For example, it is true that most violent crime is committed by males under 35. The oft cited problem of prison as a university for career criminals may have some truth, but the fact is that someone let out when he is 35 or 40 is less dangerous than he was when he was twenty, statistically speaking. People become more risk averse and slow down as they get older, and even if they remain criminals, it is not likely to be in a field that is violent or depends on violent confrontation......
