IBM PowerPC's future still closely ties with the prosperity of Apple's sales.
Furthermore, Apple new OS's cross-platform capability will sooner or later
threaten PowerPC's sales. This twisted relationship will make IBM
uncomfortable. Currently, it seems Apple push aggressively into intel-based
platform for the purpose of smoothly launching new OS in the future.
Although, Apple might perform trial-balloon for this type of machine, the trend
seems to follow Gil's will (he kept mentioning cross-platform characteristics
for new OS). The nature of this tradeoff begins to execute biased on
cross-platform capability. The only way for IBM to totally control when
Apple's new OS will be available on Intel-based machine will be for IBM to
acquire Apple, which probability may be slim but it could happen.
