Hi Pat,

Bell Canada has shown that it can 'talk the talk' on the information super-highway. Let's see if they can 'walk the walk'.

Canada has had three major projects in our history to encourage east-west over north-south (Canada-USA) development. These have been the Canadian National Railway, the Trans-Canada Highway, and Air Canada. None of these could be economically justified, as north-south flow has always been cheaper. Rather, they required the political will to help finance them in the national interest.

It is probably time for a far-sighted politician to rise to the challenge and help pay for development of a Trans-Canada Information Super-highway. This could have tremendous economic benefits and provide a head-start for Canada in world trade. Unfortunately, our current Prime Minister probably lacks the imagination to do so in a meaningfull way, so it will probably be left to a slower private sector.

Guess I should run for election, eh!

:-))

John
