Thanks for the input. I'm still not sure if this addresses the original premise... That shorting the opposite (bulls short the bear funds/bears short the bull funds) will result in a higher net return (or smaller loss :) over the short to medium term rather than simply getting long bull/bear funds.

I believe you're saying it is negligible? Looks that way after I put a few to the test. It probably wouldn't sway you or I into this approach...maybe negligible is real dollars on large hedge fund trades...
