If you have the floppy setup disk that came with the system, you should be able to boot from that. If you don't have one, see if you can borrow one.
When it boos it will give you a menu with 3 choices.
1 to install from CD-Rom
2 to boot with Cd-rom Support
3 I don't remember.
I use 2 and make a directory on the C drive (eg. w98flat)
I then copy the Directory win98 on the floppy to this directory. Works faster this way.
To install c;\w98flat\setup.
It wil gurgle & stuff for awhile, but will tell you that
it found a system and reccomend that you back out & run setup from windows/settings/control panel/add/remove programs.
It don't sound like this will work for you.
so. continue, & hope for the best.
note: this does not wipe out your personal files, but will change windows files & some of your preferences.
If all else fails, find a tecno-nerd the you can talk to
eyeball to eyeball.
Maybe the last suggestion is the best one.<g>
