These shortages are not going to hurt PDA sales in the long term. I believe PDA's sales will out number desktop and notebook computers combined one day. So supply will meet the demand, because there is a market. Having an up gradable OS is great, but I don't really think it's necessary for the PDA's. I have not upgraded my OS for about a year on my Palm V. Most people that use PDA's use then as simple tools. Simple tools, unlike desktop and notebook computers. I don't think it's really that bad that Handspring doesn't have flash memory, for the ability to upgrade the OS.
