I've read the numbers. They're painful.
"the time to pull ourselves up by the boot straps was probably a good 2 decades ago."
Voters elect politicians. Voters are just as much to blame as politicians who said "You don't have to pay taxes!"
There's all kinds of injustice, and great wrongs have been done.
"the math says that we are done, regardless of my feelings"
In 30 years, the US could pay off its debt, or get it down to 10-20% of GDP. Yes, it would be painful. Yes, there would be poverty. Yes, you will pay for the sins of others who pay nothing. Yes, it's wrong, and yes, you have been treated unfairly.
There are millions on this earth living on the edge of starvation, with no home, no home and no hope. Compared to many others, the US and its people are still in good enough shape to make a comeback.
How you would have fared in post-war Korea, Japan, Germany, Netherlands, Russia or many other countries that endured great hardship? Do you think you are the world's first to suffer loss and injustice without reason? What the US is facing now is nothing, compared to what they transcended.
I believe the US can overcome its problems. You don't.
Your forefathers triumphed over adversity in the Great Depression. It was hard. Are you not their equal?
