>>>I use the following programs: VisiMap ModelOffice EMedia Guitar Corporate Demos MS Golf Word Netscape Current Release All of these support service centers indicated they do not have a Linux version and have no plans to introduce one. What shall I do? <<<
From the look of that list, stop goofing off at work? :-)
Netscape has announced support for Linux, I believe. Note that their source is now open and on way more machines and OS than the MSFT version.
But stick with Win95, since that seems to be what you need and love. You don't seem to need a server, not of your own, anyway. (If you have money, and you really need a server, hire somebody to make you a server, presuming you have your own business.)
So you don't need Linux or NT either, any more than I need an electronics shop. You seem to need a cheap game and word processing clone, given your list. However, most of us here build major apps for clients or have web-based businesses and servers, or run demanding multiuser apps, and so have this kind of heavy-duty need.
Anyway, MSFT itself will obsolete your programs and hardware before too long, especially any made by the competition, so don't panic - just buy new ones for Linux if you must go to Linux. Or get an emulator. If the emulator isn't fast enough, get a multiprocessor PC, which is cheap now. Linux will support it, and you can run your windows stuff on a processor of it's own, say a pentium II 450. That should be good enough for a golf game, eh?
Cheers, Chaz
PS - I don't see Lotus on your list - you did say you had a Linux box and had crashed it with Lotus didn't you? What happened to that on your list? |
