Jim, Sanjiv Mehrota suggested the latest NAND flash...

...would greatly enhance write speed performance. I also read in a recent
post that SD cards will have peak write speeds in the 10 MB/sec range.

I doubt that Lexar Media has much left to brag about at this point and
that company seems to have its work cut out for themselves now that SanDisk
will also be cooperating with Sony on future MemoryStick variations. It
would seem that the controller technology evolves along the same lines as
the flash wafer technology. Thus, leading edge wafer manufacturers have
an inside track on future controller design. This may give SNDK a competitive
edge going forward. SNDK can concentrate solely on flash and flash controller
design and hope that its sales force can push their products out the
door. Eli keeps referring to their "vertical integration" which should pay
off once consumer demand is strengthened.

BTW, SanDisk seems to have abandoned NOR altogether. It seems that data
storage is now front-and-center, while code storage applications
have taken a back seat. Perhaps the memory densities where SanDisk now accels
are no longer suitable for smaller, code storage applications.
