World's First Voice-Controlled, Multimedia Wearable Computer Provides Voice Control of Windows Applications

SARASOTA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 20, 1997--Teltronics Inc. (NASDAQ:TELT) Wednesday announced the introduction of its voice-controlled computer with multimedia full-motion video.

Developed by Teltronics' subsidiary, Interactive Solutions Inc., the new Mentis(tm) computer is smaller than any laptop and provides instant voice command access to a repository of multimedia content. The computer also provides voice control of Windows(r) applications, as well as natural speech dictation and audio tape transcription.

The Pentium(r)-based Mentis computer can be worn, carried, or used in a desktop environment providing real-time hands-free access to critical information.

The Mentis computer has the power and functionality of a desktop, saves time, and enhances efficiency by eliminating the use of a keyboard, though a keyboard could be used. Information provided by the Mentis computer can include full-motion video, CD-quality audio, and 3D animation, as well as graphics and text. The system's MentiSoft(tm) user interface is intuitive and easy to learn.

Automobile and aircraft companies, as well as the military, are examples of organizations that are testing the Mentis computer and MentiSoft software as a real-time information delivery platform.

Interactive Solutions' Real-Time Mentoring(tm) delivery system, provides "just-in-time" mentoring for the user by supplying access to large volumes of data without the need for complicated search engines or long menus. For example, an automobile technician can simply voice-command the Mentis computer to provide video, animation, as well as question-and-answer diagnostic sequences for servicing a multitude of automotive electrical and mechanical systems. Using Real-Time Mentoring to deliver information when it's needed dramatically reduces the need for formal training.

The Mentis processing unit is about an inch thick, measures 7.5 by 5.5 inches and contains the smallest, fully-multimedia-equipped, Pentium-based single computer board. The Unit also includes an optimized-for-speech audio plug-in card, an MPEG decoder plug-in card, as well as an enhanced IDE hard drive. The audio plug-in card is fully equipped to enable simultaneous input and output for rapid software navigation. The highly sophisticated MPEG plug-in board allows the Mentis system to display flicker-free, 30 frames-per-second, full motion video at unprecedented resolutions.

Two different visual display devices are available, including a flat panel, LCD screen, as well as a head-mounted display. Both displays provide VGA or better, full-color resolutions and are accompanied by a mini-boom microphone. The flat panel also has a unique snake-like mounting mechanism that allows the display to be attached and viewed in virtually any work environment.

The MentiSoft software complements the Mentis computer with a 32-bit, multimedia authoring system for easy development of interactive, multimedia applications.

The sophisticated design of the Mentis enclosure enables full desktop connectivity, including all standard I/O ports, such as parallel, serial, VGA, infra-red, mouse and keyboard. An optional CD-ROM can be added to the system.

Teltronics manufactures and markets both the Mentis hardware and MentiSoft software solutions. More information about the Mentis computer can be obtained by visiting the company's web site at www.info-isi.com or by calling 941/753-5000 or toll-free 888/463-0474.
