The deal will make Newmont active in the Elkhorn district of Montana, where Santa Fe has one million ounces of reserves, and a joint venture with Mt. West (MWR) for adjoining ground that already has 270,000-280,000 ozs indicated. At least three additional mineralized pipes have yet to be explored, and a deeper skarn structure could host several million ounces, according to geologists familiar with the property.
