I read in the newspaper around Christmas that British Airways was using a revolutionary bag-tag for luggage that uses RFID to track all their luggage worlwide. They were using their London - Frankfurt route as a pilot program. The program was going to be in place for 1st Q 1999, then proceed from there based upon results.
The article did not state who was supplying the technology to BA and I wondered if it might be Samsys. If you will recall, Smy is doing a pilot program with a U.K. based co. but would not reveal who because the co wanted to keep it a secret for competition concerns.
SMY said it was a U.K. based "retailer"....could an airline be considered a retailer?
In the meantime, I understand that Motorola is engaged in RFID technology so it may be Motorola involved with BA and SMY is concentrating on the large container business.
Any comments?
Cheers
