Today's tape

I watched it pretty closely. There were only 2011 trades today. Trades above 10,000 shares amounted to about 1,382,000 shares. Most of those were concentrated between 10 1/2 to 10 9/16.

So it looks like a big chunk of today's volume is institutional buying/selling. Maybe the traders are playing with some big orders at around the 10 1/2 price. The fact however that such a big chunk of low volume is tied up in big trades means that the little guy isn't buying anymore.

What was more worrisome was the stagnant market trading that I saw. For example lots of bids and lots of asks but no movement to empty the queue. I've never liked the way NOVL trades and once again it looks like the market doesn't influences price movement as much as "other" factors.

What will these guys do without a market? Trade the stock back and forth to each other?
