Microsoft's machine might work for the PC platform, where Intel's performance gains "hid" the fact that Windows PCs software has actually gotten less efficient for years. But when it comes to mission critical, CROSS PLATFORM directories, MSFT's "machine" will not be able to cover up the fact that NDS SCADS will soon support 150 million objects (enterprise, extranet, internet, wherever, all platforms) and is years ahead of AD. AD could ship tomorrow, and it would still be years behind. Cisco will realize this soon enough.
