belker,
I dual-boot with W98SE and W2000Pro, and have 2 hard drives.
i am wondering what is the best way to install the second hd...
If it were me, I would partition the new (larger?) hard drive in two and put both OSs on it. I would have to reinstall W98, but W98 has always given me so much trouble that a clean reinstall has usually been worth while.
I would use the second hard drive solely as a backup device. Several of the thread regulars use DriveImage, I do and I know I swear by it. It runs from the hard drive or floppies, and the floppies have restored my disk to perfection when the computer seemed dead beyond hope.
This way, if you have a recent image file on the second hard drive, either drive can explode and you are still ok. DriveImage is also useful for installing new software: make a backup (takes 10 minutes), install the software. If the new program screws things up, you restore the image, and you have no odd bits in your registry left over from a conventional uninstall.
If I did it over, I would reduce the size of the W98 partition - I never use it any more. W2000 is so much better, and device and application support is broad enough for me.
