The 65nm process is supposed to use SSOI, which was predicted by IBM when it was introduced to provide a performance upgrade. The numbers talked about at the time exceeded 20 percent. No mention was made of having to redesign the transistors.

It would seem that if one had to do a redesign of transistors to get that same 20 percent, that would be a totally different process.

We have heard many times about the performance upgrade Intel got when they moved to 65nm and released Yonah. We are now hearing that the netburst architecture, (an overheated P-4), is getting a power reduction.

I remember AMD getting a performance boost when it transitioned to 90nm, so it seems logical that there could be a similar boost in the 65nm process, especially when SSOI is added.
