Yes, "hands and fingers" can not be separated from "head count". Sorry to cause problem.
From my understanding from reading their web sites, LHSP's software is concentrated at individual computer which understands user's sentence and translate it into individual word to make input easier. But Nuance is concentrated at server end which executes the sentence of the caller. In other words, if you want to make typing 100 page document easier, you need LHSP's software. But if Schwab wants to use computer to reduce it's head count in the trading dept. it needs Nuance's software to answer it's customer's call and place it's customer's order automatically.
On the other side of the story, Nuance and SpeechWorks are most likely competitors, by reading SpeechWorks's product description page at:

SpeechWorks's technology is what we're using today, ie. when we make a call, we're given a limited options to speak, to complete a single trade order, we need to go back and forth 3 times to complete the trade order because of the limited option at each step. But in Nuance's system, we can finish the order in 1 step by speaking all we want in one sentence. Is SpeechWorks working on something to make it 1 step order?
and does LHSP have similar product? How about voice authentication?
