Hi Mark,

You asked me to follow up on the problem that we were having with opening .jpg attachments after having removed Netscape 6.0.

We have found the solution. First, the sypmtom - the error message in Outlook Express that came up read something like:

"Cannot find NETSCAPE6.exe - Cannot open Mozilla JPEG file"

We went through the procedure specified in the NC release notes for uninstalling Netscape 6.0 and it didn't solve our problem.

So I saved the .jpg to a temp file, and went into Microsoft Explorer, located the file, and right clicked on the file. A dialogue box opened and the first two menu choices were "Open" and "Open with..." I selected "Open with..." and a new dialogue box gave me a choice of programs to use to open the file. I chose Iexplorer and at the bottom of the dialogue box made sure I checked the checkbox to "Make this program the default choice" (or words to that effect). Clicked OK and the image came up immediately in a browser window. Oh, the joy! :) Somehow, when removing Netscape 6.0, we hadn't removed an instruction in the bowels of Windows to use Netscape Navigator as the default .jpg reader. I still don't know why that would be the case, but we do have the computer working normally for a change, so I'm not going to be terribly concerned to seek out that answer.

Thanks to all who contributed to my attempt to solve this problem. :)

And have a grand weekend, Ray
