The reason 99.9% of people buy their diamond jewellry from a jewellry store is because it was not available on the internet before. Once it is, you will see an errosion of the market for traditional sales. Let's face it, if you could get a 1 carat over the internet from a reputable dealer for the same price as a 1/2 carat at the store (for example) wouldn't it be tempting to go for the larger rock if both were of the same quality. Does the larger rock equate into "she'll love me twice as much" doesn't really matter if the perception remains. Issues like security, tampering, reputation of the seller I am sure can be overcome. I am sure if we can send a man to the moon we can get a diamond from point A to B untouched.
