I'm one of the old people who needs the Medicare and Retirement ages to stay the same or really drop down a year. My wife and I have already transferred much of our savings to our son for his college education and we are still paying for 1/2 of it--without regret. We started late in this family game but I don't see that we should be punished with the rules changing when my wife gets close to retirement age. We are getting gouged by her health insurance--the premiums-- and she rarely needs to use actual medical care.
I have certainly benefited this year with Medicare having gotten 2 hip replacements without current charges to me. I did pay for them for many years contributing and paying taxes which I am still doing. Also, I don't have an employer who paid me for sick leave or vacation pay while I was recuperating from the surgeries--about 6 weeks total of missed work..
Oh, yeah. I also served in the military, guarding our shores for 3 years, while others did not and they got to keep making and saving money for their retirement. I did get help from the GI bill which was quite helpful and I'm grateful for the trade-off.
I'm pleased for you that you and your family will not have to use government resources but some of us will be part of the 47% and only wanting what we've earned and were promised when we started the 'game'.
It feels funny disagreeing with you so strongly.
