Greenspan's speech on "irrational exuberance" is just a softer way of phrasing "speculative blow-off", which appears to be the market phase we have just entered. How long it will last is anybody's guess, but i have seen 3 since the 1972 top. Lots off fast money made and subsequently lost due to wave after wave of forced margin selling during the sharp declines that followed. Day traders delight, momentum traders sometimes burned and investors wiped out. But by far the worst casualties are the 30ish, MBA fund managers who turn 50 in less than a year and find themselves very busy re-writing their resumes.
