Where is Chromatic -- in Gateway DVD-PCs........

Gateway DVD using Pentium II 256MHz gets great review. But it's DVD video shows artifacts -- it uses Chromatics/Rambus on an STB board.

Excerpt below:

<<The Pentium II chip isn't the only neoteric technology inside the G6-266XL. It
includes an ATAPI Toshiba SD-M1002 DVD-ROM drive connected to an
STB DVD decoder card. The PCI-based STB card features the Chromatic
MPact Media Processor for MPEG-2 and AC-3 audio decoding, and 4MB
of Rambus memory. Other than a DVD sample disc, no other DVD titles are
included. At press time, Gateway was determining what its DVD software
bundle would be.

We took the DVD subsystem for a spin with a DVD movie we had in our
office. It produced impressive sounding audio, but the video displayed some
artifacts, especially when scaled to full screen. In all fairness to the G6-266XL,
the playback was similar to other PC-based DVD solutions we have seen to
date. [Guess they haven't experienced ZiVa]
The DVD-ROM drive does double-duty as an 8x CD-ROM drive.

The DVD image is produced onscreen via an overlay mode, achieved by an
internal cable that jumpers the DVD card to the STB Nitro 3D graphics card.
The PCI-based STB Nitro 3D is powered by an S3 Virge/GX chip with 4MB
of EDO DRAM, and connected to a 21-inch Gateway Vivitron 1100 monitor.>>
