All excellent points Jeff. There are a lot of wounds to be sure, but none are life threatening.

You know, I think the last time I can remember the country being united, irrespective of political differences, was during Gerald Ford's administration, especially the role he played right after taking office. Pardoning Nixon was the right thing to do, it was a bold step and a true "profile in courage", even though it ultimately cost him the election. Nevertheless, I can't recall a more unified period of time than his Aug '74 - Jan '77 term of office.

But the problem today is that Gerald Ford wouldn't be acceptable to the leadership of the Republican Party. Now, ain't that a hoot?
