There are some more things I would try before reinstalling 98SE.

Have you used the repair tool to restore your previous version of IE? If not, I'd try that and then check and see if the problem still exists.

Have you tried the sites with another browser such as opera or netscape?

You might try the new IE6 beta. Several on this thread are using it successfully.

Backing up the favs is easy. Bookmarks: in an internet explorer window go to file/import and export/next/choose the function you want (export favs)/make sure the top line (favorites) is selected in blue/next/browse to wherever you want to store the backup and name it something that you can remember (I add the date at the end of bookmark)/next/ finish. You can also go to C:\WINDOWS\Favorites and select all within the folder/copy and paste into another folder and just reverse the process when you need to restore.

Assuming Outlook Express is your email program, here's a link on backing up what you need.

Reinstalling 98SE should cause you no problems or loss of data. Installed programs or data files should not be affected.
