Andrew, You still may need to reload 98 off the CD. The version that is on your laptop is not loaded that way at the factory and often contains some corrupt sectors. That was my problem--it kept crashing--and as soon as I reloaded it from the CD it worked fine. Too bad the Inspiron isn't loaded with NT, which works better. Phil
