Carter was a fine president and is a real Christian. His presidency's lack of success was due to several factors he inherited and others outside his control.

- Post Vietnam and Watergate malaise
- The colossal Vietnam war debt
- The rebellion of OPEC against the west due to support for Israel and old school oil revenue sharing deals
- The fall of the Shah Of Iran after he badly neglected his people
- The crashing of choppers during the daring hostage rescue mission

Also, it's pretty well accepted now that Reagan's guys bribed the Iranians leading up to the election against Carter, promising them military spare parts in exchange for hanging onto the hostages until after the election.

Now let's check out what Carter accomplished. SALT talks with the Soviets, bringing Israel and Egypt together for the Camp David accords, building a huge solar and clean fuels program which Reagan demolished, bringing the old south into the modern era and minimizing racial divides which the GOP rightwing later restored and stoked.

Gerald Ford was also plagued by many of the same problems.

And as for Iran, if the rightwing has a problem with what Carter did, or didn't do, then why support Reagan who did nothing to regime change in Iran and actually armed them and Saddam both even trading arms for hostages which he pledged he'd never do.
