a/c works on taking out humitdy and warm air, house should be dry with a/c running one reason why 75 degrees would feel like 70 degrees outside for example. lack of humidity.

i have seen and experience the smell in cars. it is caused by parking and shuting off engine and a/c then the mostiure sits there in cabin filters and vents. one way to avoid the smell and build up is to run the air through the vents after shutting down a/c before you shut off the engine.. it should clear out the moisture from system in vents and dry filter enough if damp. or through heater on if real bad for a few minutes.

good luck. never experienced that problem in houses. what about running just the fan and let it take colder air from basement.. if you have one. that should also clear up vents before shutting down a/c .. next time you run it there shouldn't be a moisture problem in vents. just a thought.
