Stock index futures plunge as tariff selloff looks to extend at Monday's open

Wall Street's rout looks set to continue this week as stock index futures plunged as they opened for trading on Sunday.

Growth stocks are tumbling again with Nasdaq 100 futures ( US100:IND) (NASDAQ: QQQ) down -5%. S&P futures ( SPX) (NYSEARCA: SPY) opened down -4.8% and Dow futures ( INDU) (NYSEARCA: DIA) were down -4,.2%.

"Dow futures are indicating a 1,500+ point drop after the index fell 1,500+ points on back to back days to end last week for the first time in history," Bespoke Investment Group said.

"Bottom line: we get more volatility and possibly larger sell off, which is what futures are telling us -- until investors push valuations to point where they are tethered to reality," economist Joseph Brusuelas said. " There are too many simultaneous shocks to the economy for it to absorb without causing a much larger problem."

Odds on Polymarket of a U.S. recession this year, which were below 40% at the end of March, rose to above 65%.

Bitcoin ( BTC-USD), which had looked to be slightly insulated from the equity selling, played some catch-up on Sunday, falling below $80,000.
