I contributed some money to Dean's campaign in the early going because I was against the Iraq war, and I appreciate what he has been doing.

But even when the man smiles, he looks like he is challenging you to a fight. He is the Robert Conrad of presidential politicians.

I often say that if I had one question to ask Dick Cheney, it would be: "Are you capable of telling a joke, a story, anything, to make me laugh?" Because as near as I can tell, he is incapable of humor (he proved me wrong with some pretty damned funny remarks on his public image that I read in the paper).

I'm wondering if the same is true of Dean. A little whimsy, some self-deprecating humor would go a long way.

You can't run an entire campaign in "full combat mode."
