It seems highly peculiar to go back and forth over Allon's and Eshkol's opinion of negotiating with Jordan in 1967 and 1968 without mentioning that the "Arab awareness" King Hussein had to satisfy had just announced: No recognition. No negotiation. No peace.

Of course the Jordanian option refuses to die, it makes perfect sense, and the Hashemites have generally behaved like responsible adults, something you can't claim about other Arab leaders. But the Hashemites have to survive, and Israel is right to doubt Jordan's ability to do a deal and remain stable.
