From my non-technical background I understand that the problem with Hespan is the NA. You say you use lactated ringers though. Hextend is essentially a lactated ringers solution with hetastarch.

One can only wonder why Abbott would even consider Hextend if nobody is going to use it. You have not heard about it because Abbott has not begun marketing yet. At least that one was easy.
