dawg, I have a 2 year old Scanmaker X6 and it has a POWER button. I only turn it on when scanning - maybe twice a month. Once in a while the system says it's not there, but a reboot fixes that. I think cheap scanners must be cheap for a reason. But having no experience with expensive ones, I can't comment further.
