I resemble your statement about old code fiends.. I still revert to ASM sometimes for often called loops (if I'm not looking for portability, if I'm looking for portability, I use a conditional statement and write asm and C/C++ for that chunk and just build whatever is appropriate).

I learned to program on the C64 with only 64K of ram.. you learned how to be real efficient.. ;)
