Yes, UNIX, and in particular Linux is a breeze. I installed and brought up a Linux machine for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and it took less than half an hour to bring it up and integrate it with our internal network. There was almost nothing to do, since it is based on the same standards technologies as our other UNIX machines, and was able to deduce how it should configure itself. It doesn't invent terms, and proprietary protocols that don't talk to other technologies on equal terms. And the file caching in Linux is phenomenal, our across-the-network builds run 10 to 20 times (TIMES) faster than from our NT workstations.

It is only lack of time which prevents me from throwing the NT system away and replacing it with a Linux machine. That event is rapidly approaching.

The point is, twister, that a computer should be no more difficult to install than a telephone, and have the same level of reliability and ease of use. When Microsoft put THAT into their vision statement, I will start to take them seriously.
